Our Story
GBV is a family owned business operating in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. We have an impressive track record of designing and building luxury homes of the highest standard.
Huddersfield's Family Run Builders
In 1983 Graham & Yvonne Booth (Founder of GBV Builders) bought "cheese wedge cottage", a derelict building in which they converted it in to an upside down family home. This was their first renovation which they won a prestigious award for. In 1993 he bought a run down property in Kirkburton which used to be many things from a slaughter house to a co-op storage unit. This was the biggest development to date which saw him and his whole family (wife, 3 kids, dog and 15 puppies) having to live on site in a 60' porta cabin. Once completed. The family moved in to their new house which they thought was to be their final move until a planning application got passed to build a new house in the garden!
Whilst building the second development in their spare time, Graham & Yvonne also built numerous extensions, new builds and also acquiring quite a respectable property portfolio. Not many years later and Sam joins the forces after completing a joinery apprenticeship. With his son a joiner and him a builder they both worked well together learning each others trade. Later in 2008 Jess would join the ranks, he also completed his joinery apprenticeship with GBV. Both his wife and his daughter Jodie also do their share in the company, in doing all the admin side.
The Team
Since this collaboration GBV has done many developments, extensions and new builds and will continue as long as possible with all three kids (Jodie, Sam and Jess) now with kids of their own. Our hope is to continue to pass down the knowledge and company to the generations to come and so on.
The owl
Our Grandfather (Grandad Albie) used to make concrete owl sculptures using old toy box packaging as a mould. We found one of the old owls while digging out a garden and decided to use this as our GBV signature on the many houses we build.
